Joshua R. Kotter

Joshua serves as Managing Partner for AVantGarde.  He obtained his Juris Doctorate, MBA, and Baccalaureate degrees from several prestigious universities, graduating with honors (including graduating Beta Gamma Sigma (top 1-3% of class), while simultaneously completing dual graduate and doctoral degrees).  Joshua has been involved in the practice of law in Ohio, Washington State, and Utah since 2003.

Joshua previously worked as general legal counsel for a sizeable hospital and clinical healthcare company with 5 sites, approximately 200 employees, and nearly $115 Million in annual budget/revenue.  In this capacity, Joshua was responsible for all legal matters, including corporate governance & board advisement, regulatory compliance, management of outside counsel, heading, managing, and negotiating many multi-million dollar transactions, projects, negotiations, contracts, debt vehicles, and complex mergers and acquisitions (involving multiple U.S. federal agencies).  Joshua was also at the forefront of partnering a federally qualified health center and tribally designated entity with a critical access hospital, to achieve greater organizational efficiencies and financial success.  Joshua’s conception and implementation of this new model represented the first such partnering between such entities, and it opened federal legislators’ eyes to a new and very beneficial model in the healthcare industry.  Joshua also drafted and presented a multi-million dollar proposal to Utah’s U.S. congressmen, regarding what organization should take over trusteeship from Utah State, for the Utah Navajo Trust Fund (which is charged with managing the profits from oil production on the Aneth Extension of the Navajo Nation, for the benefit of Navajo people living in Utah State).  Initially, this proposal was accepted and drafted into legislation to be presented in Congress, as an act of Congress is required to alter the trusteeship.  Ultimately, the proposal and legislation was amended.

Given his experience, Joshua has a strong background in corporate and business law, healthcare law, and general civil litigation.

Prior to working as an attorney, Joshua worked in industry as a member of executive management.  This experience compliments Josh’s understanding of businesses and corporations.

Beyond the practice of law, Joshua enjoys serving his community.  While still in school, Joshua served as president of two fraternities, as well as a member, board officer, and committee chairman for the International Board of the J. Reuben Clark Law Society.  Joshua was first elected to publicly elected political office (at the local level) in 2002; he has served as the board chairman for a community development corporation; he was requested to serve, and did serve, as a board member for his city’s planning and zoning commission; and he is an appointed and approved adjunct professor for Utah State University (in the areas of business and law).
